Critique option on deviations
As some of you may have, there has been added an advance critique option that can be used by subscribed members. I must say I'm very happy to see this as an option, and can't wait to explore the possibilities it offers. The upside is that you can gain credit if you manage to write decent comments, and will receive feedback as well. But the best part is that one will no longer be flamed for a decent written critique. Too many people always complained about 'not needing critique' when a feedback was already given, editing their description to 'DO NOT WANT CRITIQUE' after a critique was given, so I'm glad that isn't possible anymore. People who wish to receive full-depth critique can finnally be put apart from the ones who didn't really want it afterwards. It's not bad to have second thoughts, but not always fun for the one who puts effort into writing something down.
Another plus is the rating system for the artwork AND critique. This way you can gain more knowledge about giving critique in other categories, if you are able to build up a decent feedback relationship with another artist, but artists will gain from this. I can learn more about let's say... typography, graphic works, photography and so forth if I receive feedback on my feedback. It's the system behind it that does this. You need to score a work, write a comment that is at least 100 words long, and then you'll get rated for your critique/feedback by the artist. Critique/comments won't show up on your frontpage if you find the critique/comments unfit and unfair. So if you don't like what they write about your work you can simply delete the critique when you find it unfair. You can read more about it here:
[link]Ofcourse there is a minor setback. You need a subscription but many people don't have one. Some may find it 'unfair' that the option is restricted to subscribers, but the option is still in it's starting face, who knows what might become of it.
I think this system will finally help the ones that want to grow, and want to listen to feedback. It will sort the ones out that care, and are willing to give as well as receive feedback. Accidents will still occur, as always, but hopefully less often.
That being said, I'd very much would like to try out the feature, but haven't been able to find anyone as of yet who wants to receive any critique through this feature. So if anyone happens to know anyone, give a shout.

To be honest this isn't true. People can still leave critique in comments and people will leave critique in comments. And they'll do so for people who dont want it. To be honest none of my current work is looking for critique but I HAD set an image to it just to see what it would do.
In any case I kind of admit I turned off all my "critique" notifications in my deviantwatch because my computer is flooded enough without getting links to even more deviations. (in other words when someone I'm watching leaves a critique I was getting a notification of EVER critique they left)...it was giving me another 30-40 deviatioins in my inbox a day and I already get too many. I believe notification of people REQUESTING feedback is still on. Either way I'll be likely using this feature in the future on pictures I need help with.

What I mean is that those who really want to give decent feedback don't need to waste their time anymore on people who said they didn't want feedback when the feedback was already given (in other words, state it in your description if you don't want feedback).
Many people get angry when feedback is justified. It is as if they feel uneasy when someone tries to tell them the truth, even when that happens in a fair and gentle way. There is no shame in making mistakes, there is no sin in making mistakes. How else can we become better?
But the annoying thing about giving critique is giving it, and getting flamed afterwards. People will start yelling at you that they didn't want critique, but how can you know? I often found myself in a position where I gave a critique, the artist would quickly EDIT his/her deviation description, putting in it that they DON'T NEED any critique. That the work was purely made for fun, etc etc. Sadly, we can not edit comments. So that way, everyone started flaming me for my critique. But the artist edited his description, and I didn't know that he/she didn't want critique when I wrote the critique. And this happened 9/10 times. That is frustrating, and unnecesary waste of time. So I stopped giving feedback all together. It just wasn't worth it if no one appreciates it. But I feel like that is changing now. The 1/10 who want it can finally be reached. With a score to go.
But after reading my journal, I ought to rephrase some sentences. What sounds right in dutch doesn't always sound right in english. I still have issues with that, and I did put it in wrong words.
